Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a common eye condition that affects a growing number of people as they age. It is a progressive disease that can lead to vision loss if left untreated. Co-management of AMD involves working closely with an ophthalmologist and optometrist to monitor the progression of the disease and determine the best course of treatment. Regular eye exams, lifestyle changes, and treatment options such as injections or laser therapy can help slow the progression of AMD and preserve vision. It is important to work with a team of eye care professionals to effectively manage this condition.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma treatment involves lowering intraocular pressure to prevent further damage to the optic nerve. This can be achieved through eye drops, oral medications, laser therapy, or surgery. Eye drops are the most common form of treatment and work by either reducing the amount of fluid produced in the eye or increasing the amount of fluid drained out. Oral medications can also be used to reduce fluid production. Laser therapy is used to increase fluid drainage and can be done in an outpatient setting. Surgery is typically reserved for more advanced cases and involves creating a new drainage channel for the fluid to exit the eye. It is important to regularly monitor intraocular pressure and follow the treatment plan prescribed by your ophthalmologist to prevent further vision loss.

Diabetic Related Eye Exams

Diabetic-related eye exams are crucial for individuals with diabetes as they are at a higher risk for developing eye complications. These exams involve a dilated eye exam, which allows the eye doctor to examine the retina and detect any signs of damage or disease. It is recommended that individuals with diabetes receive a comprehensive eye exam at least once a year to monitor any changes in their eye health. Early detection and treatment of eye complications can help prevent vision loss and maintain overall eye health.
